When you observe the highs and lows, inherent strengths and weaknesses, idiosyncrasies and ideologies of Hinduism, one would feel that this religion has a persona and a character of its own. If you take a look at the history of this religion which spans across several millennia, one would certainly feel that this religion has never lost its inherent virtues, but has definitely lost its confidence and self respect.
For more than 2000 years, this religion gradually and quietly flourished and gained strength but could not overcome its congenital weaknesses. Then started the age of invasions: Hindus were either victims or mute spectators of these gory annals of history. Ghazini, Ghori, Chengiz Khan and Timur have all left their bloody mark on the history of India but the death blow was dealt at the beginning of the second millennium when this Hindu majority country tasted foreign rule for the first time and we haven’t really recovered yet
These thousand years of foreign rule ushered a lot of socio, economic, political and cultural changes; and this foreign rule also has a lot of negative impact on the psyche of this religion, which once proudly held its sway across the subcontinent. Hindus have been treated as secondary citizens and are still being treated as secondary citizens in this so called secular democratic country. Millions of people have converted to the faith of the rulers, millions have been slaughtered, but the greatest impact was on those people who survived this slaughter. Thousand years of subordination and slavery shattered their self confidence and self respect, they are not shackled now but they lost the habit of raising their hands in protest. We are living in virtual slavery.
Evolution tends to imprint behavioral patterns into the genes of species and this turned out to be true in case of Hindus. For centuries, lack of religious fervor has been a survival trait for Hindus, because, extremely devout and over-zealous Hindus were the first to face the wrath of the foreign rulers. In natural or rather artificial selection, only those who pandered to the religious aggression of the rulers survived and the rest perished. To survive one need to have a strong and unreasonable sensitivity towards the religious sentiments of the rulers and to succeed one need to have a morbid hatred towards Hindus who are assertive about their right to practice their religion. A human sub-species called the “Secular Hindu” flourished in those years of foreign rule and this survival pattern got imprinted in our genes. In survival of the fittest, the most unfit survived.
Now we have a new gene “THE SECULAR GENE “This is commonly found in all our political leaders, media tycoons and our intelligentsia.
This is how this gene works
*Tasleema Nasreen should be stoned to death for hurting the deepest emotions and strongest sentiments of the minority community.
*Karunanidhi should be hailed as the most progressive politician of the millennium, for this scathing attack on Lord Ram and Ramayana and for his morbid obsession with the destruction of Ram setu
*Not just Salman Rushdie’s books, but Rushdie himself should be burnt alive
*MF. Hussain on the other hand should be conferred Bharat Ratna in the name of honoring the freedom of expression
*India should declare war on Denmark and the word cartoonist should be purged from the oxford dictionary
*Muslims have the right to protest Saddam’s execution in Bangalore, but Hindus in Malaysia cannot urge the Indian government for help
*Communist government in Kerala has the right to comment on who should be allowed into the Guruvayur temple, but police cannot enter a masjid to arrest a dreaded terrorist
*State endowment departments would continue to plunder the Hindu temples and the central Government would provide Haj subsidy
*Babri Masjid should be rebuilt and Ram Setu should be distroyed
*Indians (Kashmiri Muslims never consider themselves Indians) shouldn’t be allowed to buy land in Muslim dominated Kashmir and Amarnath Shrine board shouldn’t get an inch of land. WAKF boards should be allowed to hold thousands of acres of land across India.
*Milad-un-Nabi is a national holiday and Ram Navami is not a national holiday any more
*If you have this so called “Secular Gene” you would have a brilliant career in politics and media. For career counseling please contact the following people
